5 Ways to Prepare Your Home for Summer

Summer can be a  great time. It’s a time to spend a little extra time with your family. The kids are out of school and you might even have some vacations planned. There are plenty of places to go to escape the Arizona heat and have some fun. The last thing you want to do is spend your whole summer worrying about chores and catching up on AC maintenance

Since spring is here and summer is coming fast, it’s time to get ahead on all of the little things you’ve been putting off. We all procrastinate on home maintenance because, let’s face it, it isn’t fun. But once these five things are done, you’ll be free to enjoy the rest of your summer!

1. Have Your Roof Inspected

One of the biggest problems in Tucson, AZ during the summer is staying cool. It’s not uncommon for temperatures to be in the triple digits and the heat from the day can make your house feel like an oven. One of the best ways to help your air conditioner out is to make sure your roof and attic are in good condition. You don’t want all of the cool air to escape through a badly insulated attic or a roof that has holes in it. You also don’t want to have rain dripping through the ceiling on your head when the summer monsoons come. You can have your roof inspected for any problems before summer comes.

2. Change Your Air Filters

Your air conditioner is going to have a really tough time keeping your house cool if the filter is still clogged up from all the winter dust. You should change it before summer, and then every month after that. If you’re not sure how to change your air filters, that’s no problem! You can have your HVAC technician show you how, or they can even do it for you. A clean filter will help you avoid air conditioner repairs later on.

3. Clean Out Your Gutters

Your gutters can get clogged with leaves and debris during the fall and winter. Make sure they’re all cleared out before summer! That way, when the rain comes, you won’t have water dripping down onto your landscaping or seeping into your home’s foundation.

4. Do Some Spring Cleaning

You might have already started scrubbing the walls and dusting your knick-knacks, but have you thought about having your air conditioning system cleaned out? Your ductwork can get dusty, too, and your  AC unit might need evaporator or condenser coil cleaning. Spring is a great time to have your HVAC technician come out and give your AC a good spring cleaning.

5. Schedule AC Maintenance

Cleaning isn’t the only kind of TLC your AC is going to need before summer. It will also need other AC maintenance like small air conditioner repairs, lubrication, and adjustments. If you haven’t scheduled your spring AC checkup, now’s the time to get it on your calendar! A check-up can help your AC to blow out that icy cold air that you’ll need to make it through the hottest days of summer. Plus, if you end up needing an AC installation, you’ll know ahead of time before your AC fails on the hottest day of the year.

With summer right around the corner, it might be time to get some home maintenance checked off your list. That way you won’t be stuck inside doing chores and making phone calls while the rest of your family has summer fun. When you need help getting your AC ready for the hot temperatures, you can give Tailored Mechanical LLC a call!
